Chennai, 21st June, 2018: HER IDEA – an initiative by FICCI FLO Chennai in association with TiE Chennai, today conducted a first of its kind workshop towards the development of women entrepreneurship in the city. Conducted with an aim to produce more women entrepreneurs, the workshop witnessed the participation of over 200 women who benefited from the educational sessions that were presented by prominent entrepreneurs from the state. Ms. Lavanya Nalli – Vice-chairman – Nalli Group has attended the workshop as Chief Guest, while Ms. Kavitha Dutt Chitturi – President of Madras Management Association (MMA) and key member from FICCI FLO – Chennai Chapter and TiE Chennai were also present.

The half a day workshop provided a platform to gain insights about the business climate in the state and provide real time solutions to help overcome challenges. As part of the workshop, three power packed sessions revolving around imperative entrepreneurial themes addressing the basics of business were organized. Kick starting the discussion, the session on Business Strategy by Ms. Kaveri Lalchand, Founder – K Clothing focused on the importance of market research and understanding the needs of the customers. Following this, a session by start-up specialist Mr. Pravin Sekar enlightened the budding entrepreneurs on the various nuances of marketing for upcoming businesses.  Addressing one of the challenge areas for business and educating the entrepreneurs about various touch points of Finance, Mr. M.S Jagan’s session focused on the significance of structuring the company and guided the new entrepreneurs on the consequence of mixing business and personal finance.

Ms. Anupama Shivaraman, Chairperson, FICCI FLO Chennai said, “It is very encouraging to see the level of participation from women across the city for this initiative. This clearly shows that the aspirational level among the women is significantly increasing and we at FICCI FLO are very excited to provide the right platform at the right time. I am confident that this initiative will produce more women entrepreneurs and contribute to the overall entrepreneur ecosystem in the city.”

Commenting on the HER IDEA series, Chief Guest Ms. Lavanya Nalli said, “I would like to thank FICCI FLO for this opportunity and I am glad to be addressing the women entrepreneurs. When I joined Nalli in 2005, I started from the back office and then moved to the retail aspect of the business. This 5 years experience in the company made me realize that I need to learn more and that’s when I decided to go abroad for management studies. One needs to fail on smaller scales to become successful on a bigger level. It is important to know that long term planning doesn’t help that much as the dynamics of the business changes every 6 months. I request the budding entrepreneurs be open to learning and trust your gut. Make sure you democratize the decision making in the business. Always think to build something that lasts even without you.”
