People with Cerebral Palsy Scuba Divein a Chennai pool as a part of Firefox Bikes’ CSR event series #EverydayAbility

As a unique demonstration of grit and determination, Cerebral Palsy beneficiaries explored scuba diving alongside Firefox Bikes riders, Volunteer 4 India volunteers and professional divers

 

Saturday, September, 2018, Chennai: As a part of its #EverydayAbility event series, Firefox Bikes and Adventure Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) organized an inclusive scuba diving event for Cerebral Palsy beneficiaries from Vidya Sagar, Chennai under the overarching theme of ‘Inclusivity for People with Disabilities (PwDs)’. The three-hour event which started at 7am in the YMCA Swimming Pool Anna Salai, Nandanam, Chennai saw the participation of volunteers from VELS University, Stella Maris College and Loyola College brought together by Volunteer 4 India. In its second edition this financial year, Chennai event is the third event after Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

On this occasion. Firefox and Volunteer 4 India also announced the launch of an online portal around #EverydayAbility. This portal will host and highlight stories of extraordinary adventures, achievement in sports, and feats of physical & mental triumphs of the differently-abled citizens of India. This is a first of its kind curation of such stories. In addition, this portal will publish a calendar of inclusive volunteering opportunities across India for Individuals, Corporates and Colleges to choose from and participate. <www.everydayability.com>

Speaking on the occasion, Aditya Munjal, CEO of Firefox Bikes said, “Scuba diving for the Cerebral Palsy beneficiaries has created an inspiring story of #EverydayAbilitywhich will drive positive societal perceptions about PwDs and to inspire the industry to create more inclusive workplaces. Sheer grit and determination were beautifully displayed in an extreme sport which helped us drive the message that PwDs can live on their own terms.”

He added, “We hope to take it a step further by creating employment opportunities for PwDs at Firefox Bikes.”

The activity was conceptualised by Volunteer 4 India in collaboration with Adventures Beyond Barriers Foundation. Volunteer4India is an online platform for CSR Program Management that seeks to create an ecosystem of co-working volunteers, Corporates, NGOs and educational institutions – committed towards various social causes.Divyanshu Ganatra, Founder of Adventure Beyond Barriers Foundation (ABBF) was also present and diving along with members of ABBF.
