Chennai Literary Festival is back with a bang
• 6th edition to be held in the city from 8th to 10th January 2019
• Competitions and Workshops to be conducted in more than 30 colleges across Chennai

Chennai, 5th Jan 2019

The city is all set to host the 6th edition of the mega Chennai Literary Festival (CLF) from 8th to 10th January 2019, University of Madras and over 30 colleges in and around the city have joined hands with Chennai Literary Association (CLA) to conduct the Festival. Thiru Arun Ram, Resident Editor, The Times of India, will inaugurate the 3- day carnival, at University of Madras. Thiru. N.S. Sankar, Past Director, Lions Club International will be the Guest of Honour. The inauguration starts at 10.30 am.

“We have conducted five successful editions in the past. It is heartening that students’ response to all these editions was significant and noteworthy especially in the scenario of today’s world dominated by electronic media. The objective behind Chennai Literary Festival is to make more and more people experience the pleasure of reading and add value to their lives. We hope this sixth edition will also witness amazing literary gathering as the previous editions,” said Mr. R.J. Kumaravel, President, Chennai Literary Festival, during a press meet organized today in the city to announce on the details of CLF. Mr. Sudhakar, Secretary, Mrs. Latha Rajan, Past President and Mr. G. Olivannan, Founder, of CLF, were present during the announcement.

Various literary events happened as a prelude to main festival on the 8th December 2018 at Ethiraj College for Women, where more than 1500 students from several colleges in Chennai and suburbs participated. The activities featured Picture Story Writing, Quiz (Tamil and English), Mono-acting, Story Writing, Stage a Scene, Sing a story, Sing your Lyrics, Oratory, Identify the Writer, Dramatic Monologue, etc.

Following Thiru. Arun Ram’s address, the inaugural day of the festival (8th Jan 2019) will witness a Street Play by the students of Dr. MGR Educational & Research Institute.
On Tuesday, the 9th January 2019, a Tamil Oratorical competition is slated to be held at D G Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam and to be anchored by Mr. Ravi Subramaniam. Students from various colleges from Chennai and suburbs will participate. Concurrently, more than 30 literary workshops will be held in several participating colleges of the city. “Australian Studies,” “Dalit Studies,” Digital Humanities,” “Canadian Studies” and “Literary Theory” – 5 workshops to be conducted separately at University of Madras, “Leadership” at JBAS College for Women, “Digital Literature” at Loyola College, “Translation” at Presidency College, “Language of Happiness” at Pachaiyappas College are to name a few.

Prof. Dr. Armstrong, HOD Department of English, University of Madras & Prof. Meenakumari, English Department, Anna Adarsh College Chennai have been instrumental in taking this cause to greater heights.

On Wednesday, the 10th January 2019, Valedictory function is scheduled to take place at JBAS College for Women, Chennai. Thiru Ponvannan – Actor, will be the Chief Guest and Thiru. Aazhi Senthil Nathan – Writer, will be the Guest of Honour. Cultural events and prize distribution to the winners of the competitions and literary events are to mark the day. The prizes will be distributed by Thiru. P. Duraisamy, Vice Chancellor, University of Madras.
