Tamil Nadu with a population of around 78 million, ranks high on obesity. It is the 4th highest state in terms of people who are overweight or obese in India. 20 percent men are obese or overweight while 25 percent women are overweight or obese. Also a quarter of the state’s population has diabetes and nearly three in 10 has hypertension. The state screened more than 3.6 crore people above the age of 30 years in the past few months. The results showed more than 23 percent of men and 20 percent of women have hypertension.
