Chennai 11thApril’17: A middle aged man named Srinivasana resident of Kattankulathur, near Chengelpet,met with a road traffic accident on 6thApril 2017, and sustained severe head injuries. He was rushed to the nearby SRM Hospital for treatment. The patient was declared ‘brain dead’today (11-04-2017).
The family members of the brain dead patient, even at the hour of extreme grief, magnanimously came forward to donate his organs, so that others can live and he too will continue to exist in this world by giving life to them.Meanwhile a patient admitted at the Gleneagles Global Health City, here in Chennai, and was awaiting a suitable heart for transplantation.
Kattankulathur to Perumbakkam in 35 minutes
The transplant team at Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai, under Dr Govini Balasubramani – Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic and Heart & Lung Transplant Surgeon, rushed to Kattankulathur early this morning to assess the suitability of the heart for transplantation. Once the cross-match of the heart was established by the expert team, the organ was retrieved and was brought to Gleneagles Global Health City in Perumbakkam.
The ambulance carrying the donated heart left from SRM hospital at 12:30 pm and reached Gleneagles Global Health City at exactly 1:05 pm covering a distance of over 30 kms in just 35 minutes. A ‘Green-Corridor’ was created, jointly, by the Traffic Police of Chennai City and Kanchipuram District, for safely getting the heart, to the Gleneagles Global Health City at Perumbakkam.Dr Sandeep Attawar – Programme Director CTVS and his team of doctors successfully implanted the donated heart in a patient who was ailing with end-stage heart failure.
