SSN College of Engineering Ranked India Number 1

ssnAmong affiliated engineering colleges basis India Rankings 2017 released by Ministry of Human Resources Development
April 18, 2017, Chennai: SSN College of Engineering has been ranked as the first among all affiliated engineering colleges in the country as per the India Rankings 2017 released by Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India. It has also been ranked fifth among all private engineering institutions and 27th among all engineering institutions in the country.
The India Rankings 2017 is an initiative of the HRD Ministry under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) developed by a 16-member core committee. The ranking framework identified nearly 21 parameters under five major heads. The parameters include those employed globally as well as India-centric ones, reflecting the aspirations of the rising numbers of young people in India enrolled in higher education institutes.
SSN College of Engineering, established in 1996, is the youngest institution in the ranking list and has done well across all parameters. Some of the key highlights of the ranking are:
SSN the only affiliated, non-autonomous college in the top 100.
It is ranked number five among all private engineering institutions in India
The youngest institution to reach that rank (SSN College of Engineering was set up in the year 1996)
Ranked number one private engineering institution in Teaching, Learning & Resources and 16th among all engineering institutions in the category
Commenting on the achievement, Ms. Kala Vijaykumar, President, SSN College of Engineering, said “It is a great honour to be ranked alongside the top engineering colleges in the country. Over the years, SSN has put in place several initiatives to promote excellence in academics, increasing research output, promoting inclusiveness on campus and ensuring 360-degree development of students. One such initiative is the funding provided by the SSN management to innovative research proposals of students and faculty. Till date over Rs 1 crore funding has been provided for students’ projects and Rs 4.5 crore funding has been provided for faculty projects by the SSN management. In addition, the faculty has secured external funding of over Rs 20 crore for research projects from renowned research organizations. This has led to an exponential rise in research publications and filing of patents by students and faculty alike.
SSN College of Engineering, a constituent of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, is the outcome of Dr. Shiv Nadar’s ardent desire to give back to the society that nurtured him. Located on the Old Mahabalipuram Road, the campus is spread over 250 acres with a built-up area of over 1.8 million sq. ft. and is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure for learning, including computers and Internet facilities networked by optic fibre links, modern workshops & labs, seminar halls, auditoria, libraries, gymnasium, sports complex and hostels for men and women. The current student strength of SSN is 4,200 and it has one of the highest percentage of Ph.Ds holders as faculty among all private education institutions.
