Star Sport brings together Cricket Legends for Tamil Nadu Premier League 2.0

IMG_7752CHENNAI, July 18, 2017: After a successful inaugural season in 2016, which brought to the fore young & talented cricketers from the state, the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2.0 is set to begin on July 22, 2017. The league, known for elevating the likes of Washington Sundar and T. Natarajan on to the national stage, is poised to offer even more exciting cricketing action!

Star Sports, the official broadcaster for TNPL 2.0, hosted a discussion moderated by former India cricketer L. Sivaramakrishnan. The panel featured cricket legends Matthew Hayden and Krishtamachari Srikkanth who contributed in an insightful discussion on the growing influence of Tamil Nadu Premier League in Indian cricket, the opportunities it presents for young talent and the world-class quality of its matches.

Speaking at the panel, former Indian captain Krishtamachari Srikkanth said, “Tamil Nadu Premier League has played a pioneering role in catapulting hidden talent from the state to national glory. As someone who has represented Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket, I take pride in the growth of the cricket culture in the state. It is heartening to see young players receive national exposure at this stage in their careers & for them to be a part of a league like this, which will help them develop as cricketers & as individuals. I am looking forward to TNPL 2.0, which I hope will uncover new talent.”

L. Sivaramkrishnan said, “Tamil Nadu has always produced excellent cricketers, thanks to the strong foundation of the sport and sporting infrastructure in the state. With TNPL 2.0, newer players – who would otherwise have limited avenues for professional cricket – now have a platform to showcase their talent and cement their place in Tamil Nadu cricket.”

Matthew Hayden said, “Chennai has been one of my favourite cities to play cricket in. The first season of TNPL gave me the opportunity to meet talented players and people who truly celebrate the success of the sport. It is heartening to see TNPL 2.0 get the recognition it deserves. I look forward to the new season & hope to see a lot more exciting talent coming up & making a mark for themselves.”

Set to air on Star Sports network, starting July 22, 2017, TNPL 2.0 will see 8 teams battle in high-octane matches that will take place across Chennai, Tirunelveli and Dindigul.
