Chennai cylinder blast: Fire in bakery kills one, CM Edapadi Palanisami & Health Minister C.VIJayabaskar meets victims

One person was killed and several others were injured in a cylinder blast at a bakery in Chennai’s Kodungaiyur area on Sunday, Fire broke out inside the bakery after the blast took place. State Health Secretary Dr J Radhakrishnan said that 48 people had suffered injuries in the incident.

Chief Minister E Palanisamy met the victims at the hospital where the injured have been admitted for treatment. The CM also announced that the family of the fireman who lost his life in the incident will be given relief from CM fund and also a job will be given to a family member. Those injured will also receive monetary compensation.

Sixty-seven-year-old Paramanandhan of Appar Street, Kodungaiyur, with 82 per cent burns is being monitored by a special medical team at the Kilpauk hospital. The new patients have been identified as Naushad and Adbul.
However, all fire officials and policemen, who were injured in the cylinder blast, have been shifted to Apollo Hospitals at Vanagaram and Greams Road. Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar, who visited the victims, said that four, including a child out of 20 persons admitted at Kilpauk are suffering serious injuries.
“A special team comprising 12 doctors and 35 nurses led by Dr Nirmala has been monitoring the health conditions of the victims at Kilpauk, while another team led by Dr Ponnambalanamasivayam has been treating the 10 victims admitted at Stanley Hospital,” he said.

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday announced financial relief of Rs 13 lakh to the family of the fireman who died while dousing fire at a bakery. He also offered a job to one of his family members.

Meeting those injured in the fire accident at the Government Kilpauk Medical Hospital, the Chief Minister announced that a family member of Egaraj, the dead fireman would be given a job by the government along with the monetary compensation.

While Rs 3 lakh will be given to the family from the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund, another Rs 10 lakh will be given as relief to the family, Mr Palaniswami said. He also announced a relief of Rs 50,000 to those grievously injured in the fire accident and Rs 25,000 for those injured in the accident.

“The affected people will be treated under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Insurance Health Scheme and monetary compensation will be given to all the injured people,” Mr Palaniswami said. Health Minister C Vijayabhaskar also visited the victims and consoled them.
