This weekend, saw enthusiastic cyclists, beginners and seasoned, from the Bohra Community cycle up to 40 km through Old Mahabalipuram Road. The event was jointly conducted for the first time by the well-known Star Ryders cycling group in association with Anjuman-e-Vajihi and Nabaat, an initiative promulgated post the Chennai floods to restore the greenery in the city.
This Cyclothon event had been held to create an awareness of living a healthy lifestyle in this large trade-based community. The event organizers donated the proceeds from the event for tree planting across the city and its outskirts. The Cyclothon flaged off at 5 AM over 3 distances of 10K for Beginners, 25K for Challengers and 40K for Champions.
Star Ryders cycling group, comprising of passionate cyclists from Chennai, is a known group within the cycling fraternity and regular face at most cycling and running events in the city. You would spot them early in the morning in Marina, ECR or OMR going about their regular practice sessions through the week.
