Dream Madras 2017 – An Inter-School Competition to celebrate Chennai’s 378th Birthday

Theme of the competition “NEED FOR SAFE STREETS”

Chennai, 24th August 2017: Dream Madras is an interschool competition that took place in Anna University. The event begun at 10 am and commenced at 5pm, It’s the sixth edition of this charity – run show that brings together over 120 schools, providing them a platform to showcase their talent in both academic, and non-academic events. Students were given stalls to display their models. Simultaneously, cultural events that included singing and dance took place in the TAG auditorium. Workshops on Robotics and on emergency app were conducted in the Henry Maudslay hall.

The event started primarily in the Vivekananda Auditorium where the exhibition took place, and students were to display models to bring awareness on the theme of the event: Need for Safe Streets. Students enthusiastically participated by decking up their stalls with colourful charts, working models and statistics and games that put forward the message of safe roads. Students volunteered from different colleges in the city to make the event a grand success.

With the onset of Madras’s 378th birthday, the vibrant city witnessed celebrations throughout the week. One such event was that of the Dream Madras that was conducted by United Way Chennai, a non-profit organization that serves for the betterment of the people of Tamil Nadu through various social initiatives. United way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. United Way Chennai has collated a few causes towards which one can contribute for Charity. These causes are from the education and healthcare sectors and span a wide variety of needs in each of these sectors.

A city that truly deserves to celebrate its birthday turns 378 this year. Madras Week is weeklong celebration where Chennaites come together to rejoice the City’s Legacy. The week-long celebrations include a slew of cultural and technological events to sensitize public about the city.

One such Initiative is Dream Madras- An inter-school competition that is spearheaded by United Way Chennai, a not for profit organization that serves for the betterment of the people of Tamil Nadu through various social initiatives.

Dream Madras an inter-school, inter-dream contest wherein different schools compete against each other with their dreams about making the streets of Chennai Safer. United Way Chennai presents the 6th edition of Dream Madras – 2017 – An Inter-school Competition, where 120 schools (Mix of private & Government/Corporation schools) participate in an exhibition on Safe Streets. 12 Corporation/Government schools participate in the group cultural contest today. Prizes worth Rs. 10 Lakhs in the form of cycles for the winners, the competition will be held on 24th August 2017 in Vivekanandhar Auditorium at Anna University from 10 A.M onwards.

Dream Madras 2017 is the 6th year tribute to the Madras week celebration initiated by the United Way Chennai with an objective to provide an opportunity to bring out the vision of creative young minds for better and safe streets in Madras. Around 150 Government and Private schools from in and around Chennai will be part of the competition to bag the Dream Madras School Championship Award 2017.

The theme of the competition this year is “Need for Safe streets”. This competition enables students to express their creative innovation on the theme in the form of posters, charts, thermocol models, presentations and role plays. The presentations will be about the Overall public safety with the sub themes of Speed safety camera, Traffic Calming, Parking Designation, Street Designing, Safe streets lightning, Happy road campaign etc. Along with the competition 2 workshops on Road Safety using robotics & artificial intelligence and other on ALERT – Immediate emergency response app during road accidents will also be conducted to provide insight for the participants in the emergency scenarios. To make the day big Cultural and individual talent contest will be conducted to provide platform for the students to showcase their talents. The exhibition is open to all for viewing 10 am to 4 pm.
