The Sangam presdient S Kavidoss welcomed the gathering. SRM University chancellor T R Paari Vendhar presided over the event.
Director K Bhagyaraj was the special invitee of the event.
Vasanthakumar spoke on the topic ‘Desiyathirku Shivaji’ and said there were several actors during those days who were good in acting. But Sivaji was the only one who transformed himself as the character and acted.
‘He was a true follower of Kamarajar and never hesitated to show that in his films. He utilised cinema to bring out the history of freedom fighters like Veerapandiya Kattabomman, VO Chidambaram Pillai. He also inculcated patriotism and nationalism through his movies,’ he added.
Also present during the event was dancer Laabi, son of MacMohan Paul and Mari MacMohan Paul.
He is acting in two Hindi movies and talks are going on for his Kollywood debut.
Speaking during the event, he said that though he was born and brought up in Mumbai, his roots were in Coimbatore.
‘I have took part in various dance competitions in seven countries. I am proud be a part of the event which is held in honour of a legend like Sivaji Ganesan. I hope that the Tamil audience will accept me as their own,’ he added.
