PS Senior Secondary girls settle for runners-up spot

RFYS Chennai Photo1-2: PS Senior Secondary School (yellow jersey) finished runners up in the RFYS National Championship after losing the school girls’ final to Umthli Secondary School, Shillong at the Reliance Corporate Park, Ghansoli on Saturday.

Mumbai, Jan 6: Chennai’s PS Senior Secondary School had to settle for the runners-up place in the school girls’ category of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports National Football Championship that concluded here on Saturday.

In the final played at the Reliance Coporate Park, Ghansoli, PS Secondary went down 0-4 to Shillong’s Umthli Secondary School.

Reliance Foundation Youth Sports Football Tournenament , National Final of Senior Girls  played between Umthli Sceondary School, Shillong (White) Vs P.S. Senior Secondary school, Chennai(Yellow) at the Reliance Corporate Park,Ghansoli, Mumbai Maharashtra, on 6th January 2018. 

The battle was a story of two halves. In the first session, the Chennai girls defended with all their might but caved in the second as their rivals proved too strong for them.

After a barren first half, midfielder Wandashisha Mawrien broke the deadlock with a 36th minute and 10 minutes later defender Aidaris Kharmalki doubled the lead. Their star striker Nisilia Majaw then held centre-stage with a brace of goals in the 55th and 60th minutes to seal an easy victory.

The Umthli girls attained an invincible status with this success as they did not lose a single match this season, winning the RFYS City and Zonal championships.

They dominated the golden awards as well with Nisilia bagging the golden boot, midfielder Marbarin Nongrum, the fulcrum of their attack, clincing the golden ball and goalkeeper Banrisha Wahlang winning the golden glove.

In other finals, Chandigarh’s Minerva Public School won the senior boys and Zakir Hussain College, Delhi claimed the college boys crown respectively.

Minerva’s hopes of a double crown were dashed when The Unique Model Academy, Imphal edged out their junior boys team 6-5 in a tie-breaker after both teams were locked 3-3 at regulation time.

All winners got prizes worth Rs 3 lakh each while the runners-up were richer by Rs 1 lakh each..

Junior boys: Minerva Public School 5 (3) (Kartik Nayyar, Arjun Sharma, Dalbir Singh) lost to The Unique Model Academy, Imphal 6 (3) (Lenin Singh, Chingkheingakpa Singh, Rohit Singh) via tie breaker. Golden boot: Arpan Seth (Gangadharpur Vidyamandir, Kolkata); Golden ball: Takhellambam Chingkheingakpa Singh (The Unique Model Academy); Golden Glove: Nazim Ali (Gangadharpur Vidyamandir).

Senior boys: Minerva Public School 4 (Rebanta Metei, Makan Chothe 2, Konan Kouame) bt Rosary Higher Secondary School, Goa 0. Golden boot: Makan Chothe and Konan Kouame (Minerva); Golden ball: Gaurab Das (Kapasdanga Satin Seth Vidyapith, Kolkata); Golden glove: Irshad Mohammad (Minerva).

College boys: Baselius College, Kottayam 1 (Haris Rahman) lost to Zakir Hussain College, Delhi 2 (Aditya Singh Rawat, Karmanya Bansal). Golden boot: Damehun Sih (St Anthony’s College, Shillong); GOlden ball: Aditya Singh Rawat (Zakir Hussain College); Golden glove: Akash Mondal (Netaji Nagar Day College, Kolkata).

School girls: PS Senior Secondary School, Chennai 0 lost to Umthli Secondary School, Shillong 4 (Wandashisha Mawrien, Aidaris Kharmalki, Nisilia Majaw 2). Golden boot: Nisilia Majaw; Golden ball: Marbarin Nongrum; Golden glove: Banrisha Wahlang (all Umthli Secondary School).
