The proceeds from the Marathon will be shared with C.R.Y
Bangalore, March 4, 2018: The students of IFIM Institutions, once again, demonstrated their commitment to save the girl child by successfully hosting their annual charity fundraiser marathon ‘Kanyathon 2018’. The streets of Electronic City were filled with over 3,000 enthusiastic runners who ran the 5K and 10K runs. The run was organised under IFIM’s initiative of ‘S.A.F.E.’ (Students Against Female Exploitation).
The marathon began with a warm up session of Zumba. Present at the event were Dola Banerjee, International archer and Manjula M, International Para-athlete, along with 5,000 runners consisting of corporates, ranging from Adobe to Infosys.
Popular Indian origin archer and the Chief Guest for the event, Dola Banerjee encouraged the spirit behind the cause. She said: “IFIM’s initiatives towards the upliftment of girl child is a commendable effort. The right support for a girl from an early age not only boosts her confidence to dream big, but also creates a positive impact in society. It is a pleasure to be associated with this noble cause which is actually making an impact on the lives of the girls.”
Continuing the efforts towards upliftment of the girl child, Kanyathon has tied up with CRY Foundation as the official partner. Last year, the event raised Rs. 4.7 lakh and donated this amount to CRY. This helped in sending 121,000 girls back to school and made 412 villages free from child marriage and 1,016 villages free from child labour. Along with this, the fund helped in immunisation of 8,907 children between 0-1 yrs of age. This year too, the institution will be donating the money collected from Kanyathon to CRY.
“Kanyathon is our step towards ensuring a bright future for the girl child. We believe that women are an integral part of the society and strengthening them is building a better world for all. We will continue our support to organizations who have been contributing to this noble cause,” said Sanjay Padode, Secretary, CDE (IFIM Institutions).
The winners of the 10k marathon are James NDii in male category and Zinashwork Yenen Ambi in female category.
