Samharam Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“Samharam” Movie Produced by Vel Murugan under the banner of Vidhya Productions, Directed by Ram Prabha, Starring by Prajin Padmanaban, Sharumiishaa, Niya Varghese, Ganesh Savaratil, Rajkumar, Thendral Raja, Ram Prabha & Others.

The film itself starts with two people being brutally murdered by a masked mysterious person. After that, the film’s hero Prajin Padmanabhan lives in a bungalow with his wife and two sisters. Ganesh Savaratil, his maternal uncle’s son, is a cruel villain who has been to prison and returned for multiple crimes including drinking, rowdyism, and sexual assault. Prajin wants to marry off his elder sister to Ganesh Savaratil. But knowing about Ganesh’s bad nature, the elder sister refuses the marriage and also says she’s already in love with someone else.

Enraged by this, Ganesh speaks badly about that girl’s character. Amid this mental stress, the elder sister dies under mysterious circumstances. Even before the doubt about whether the elder sister’s death was natural clears, Prajin decides to marry off his second sister Sharumiishaa to the same Ganesh Savaratil. Like her sister, Sharumiishaa is also in love with another young man. Not wanting to marry the rowdy Ganesh, Sharumiishaa sees her brother Prajin strongly oppose her love, so with the wedding scheduled for morning, she plans to run away from home with her lover that night.

But Prajin finds out about this in advance, locks Sharumiishaa inside a room in the house and puts her under ‘house arrest’. With the tense situation of the wedding set for the next morning, Sharumiishaa, locked inside the room that night, somehow secretly sends a message to her lover asking him to rescue her and take her away, and brings her lover to the house at midnight. Following that, several unexpected people enter that bungalow one after another. On top of all this, another mysterious masked figure secretly sneaks into the house at midnight.

On top of that, Ganesh Savaratil, the villain who’s the groom, also comes to that house the same night. When Prajin realizes someone mysterious is moving around inside the house, shocking events take place there. Who is that masked mysterious person? What’s the reason behind the two murders and for entering this bungalow? Who are those people who entered the house at midnight? What happened to villain Ganesh Savaratil? Did Sharmisha unite with her lover? Did Prajin get his sister married as he planned? What happened to the first sister and her lover? The screenplay, which moves toward a gripping suspense thriller path, gives answers to questions like these with a different, shocking climax twist.

Hero Prajin Padmanabhan carries the entire story of the film on his shoulders. He appears initially as a strict elder brother who respects family traditions, and then delivers a realistic performance as a character who gets shaken by the mysterious incidents happening inside his house.

Sharumiishaa – the character of lover girl plays is the biggest turning point in the story. Instead of playing a docile girl who obeys her brother, she has delivered a powerful performance as a bold woman who takes daring decisions to determine her own life.

Ganesh Savaratil has acted brilliantly as a cruel villain with no mercy at all – drinking, rowdyism, sexual assault. He has conveyed it to the audience through his intimidating villainy.

Including Niya Varghese, Rajkumar, Thendral Raja, and Ram Prabha, all the actors have delivered the emotional performances needed for the family-based emotional scenes and have acted as the key pillars that unravel the suspense knots of the story.

Even though the entire film takes place inside a single bungalow, cinematographer Sureshkumar Sundaram has conveyed the thriller feel without a hint of monotony through angles suited to the scenes and dark, shadowy lighting. Music composer V G Hari Krishnan has maintained a tense atmosphere throughout the film without any slack through his menacing background score. Editor Ramnath has stitched together the various twist-filled thriller scenes without any lag or confusion anywhere.

Director Ram Prabha has taken a strong story, crafted an excellent screenplay, and with crisp dialogues, directed the events that happen over one night in a gripping way – keeping the suspense intact without dropping it for a moment inside a single bungalow, filled with multiple twists, revenge, and a shocking climax twist.

“Samharam” is a film that keeps you on the edge of your seat with mystery knots that make your heart race wondering what happens next, along with many unexpected twists. The screenplay, which branches out in many directions and then converges into one, is the film’s biggest strength.
