111-year-old Madras Sanskrit College launches its Digital Avatar

Chennai, March 07, 2017: The Madras Sanskrit College is a 111-year-old institution with tremendous historic significance and owes its origin to the philanthropy of “Mahapurusha” Sri V. Krishnaswami Iyer. The Madras Sanskrit College digital campus was unveiled today by Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Hon’ble Minister, Commerce & Industry, Govt of India, New Delhi at The Madras Sanskrit College, Mylapore. Sri S. Ramadorai, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences was the Special Guest at the occasion. The college has partnered with Classle, a digital learning solution provider, to make Sanskrit available for all through its digital platform.
photo (2)Through this Digital initiative, the college aims to make Sanskrit accessible and available for Sanskrit and culture enthusiasts to learn, cherish and immerse in this ancient and rich language. The Digital platform would act as a center of excellence for Sanskrit from beginners to research scholars all around the globe.
By adopting the Cloud Campus model the Madras Sanskrit College has combined the scholarship and knowledge from its brick-and-mortar manifestation with all the powers of the digital world. The faculty of the college consists of a renowned group of Sanskrit scholars in the country. The teachers in the college have in-depth knowledge, and a great reputation within their own specialized areas, whether it is Mimamsa, Jyothisha, Vedanta, Sahitya Nyaya or Vyakarana.
photo (3)The online course which is part of the digital campus is certified by The Madras Sanskrit College and can be followed up with an exam for a certificate from the Madras University. The Madras Sanskrit College will also be collaborating with other institutions and individuals who can create and disseminate content through the digital campus.

This initiative is an effort by the college make an impact on the digital world, and continue to be relevant and a source of scholarship in Sanskrit and Indian culture for the next century.”

The Madras Sanskrit College was set up 111 years ago, and is an institution with tremendous historic significance. It is a repository of the knowledge and skills of ancient India. It is an institute of excellence, serving society, through the study of Sanskrit. The Kuppuswamy Sastri research institute is an allied institution located in the same campus, pioneering the preservation and study of old, rare and priceless manuscripts. Many of the Principals and students of this College have become well known scholars of international repute and have also been awarded prestigious titles like Mahamahopadhyaya and have received Certificates of Merit from the President of India.
