The Special Convocation of Vels University was held on 17th March 2017 at the University main campus at Pallavaram at 3:30 PM. Dr.Ishari K.Ganesh, Chancellor of the University, presided over the convocation function. 
Prof. Dr.V.Thamizh Arasan, Vice Chancellor, welcomed the gathering and highlighted the achievements of the University.In the Convocation, Honoris Causa degrees were conferred on Dr.R.Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Govt. of India & DAE – Homi Bhabha Professor, New Delhi and Dr.K.Sridharan, Chancellor of Kalasalingam Academy of Research and Education (KARE), Srivilliputtur, Tamil Nadu, by the Chancellor Dr.Ishari K.Ganesh, in the presence of Dr.A.Jothi Murugan, Vice-President (P&D), Dr.Arthi Ganesh, Vice-President (Academic), Dr.V.Thamizh Arasan, Vice Chancellor, Dr.A.R.Veeramani, Registrar, Dr.Joseph Durai, Controller of Examinations, Members of Board of Management and Academic Council, of the University.
Dr. R. Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Govt. of India, New Delhi, then delivered a Special Address on “Leadership for a Knowledge Economy” and released the books of Research Papers of various Schools of the Vels University.
