Gleneagles Global Health City Launches ‘I AM EMERGENCY-READY’ Campaign in Chennai

Chennai: August 31st, 2018: Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai launched their emergency drive titled ‘I AM EMERGENCY READY’ in Chennai. The objective of this initiative is to minimize the damage and loss during medical emergencies by training public to administer immediate care to keep a patient stable until medical help arrives.

The launch that took place at Gleneagles Global Health City hospital in Perumbakkam was attended by R Sudhakar, IPS, Joint Commissioner of Police, Chennai and Mr Madhur Varma, Chief Operating Officer, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai.

Through this drive, with the support of the ER doctors, nurses and paramedics at the hospital will conduct Basic Life Support (BLS) training for individuals, corporates, and anyone who is willing to enrol be it auto drivers, roadside vendors, school students, teachers, parents, social workers, security guards etc. At the end of the training period participants will be provided with a certificate and an emergency toolkit.

Mr Madhur Varma, Chief Operating Officer, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai Said “We are proud to launch the ‘I AM EMERGENCY READY ‘drive in Chennai, through this initiative we aim to raise awareness among the Chennai residents on the steps one can take to manage common medical emergencies so that the patient can be stabilized for transport to the nearest hospital. We face several emergency cases at our facilities, where the victim has not been attended in the” initial golden minutes” of urgency. We understand the importance of first-response help during a critical moment and hence advocate to train and build an emergency equipped nation to avoid the fatal cases.”

The hospital also announced the ‘Good Samaritan Award’ to acknowledge and highlight the power of common man in turning a saviour to anyone who is facing an emergency, a felicitation program that would acknowledge and appreciate those Samaritans who have helped victims in case of any emergency. The programme encourages you to nominate an individual who has stabilized someone by providing basic life support treatment during a medical emergency or coordinated a swift evacuation in a critical emergency or donated blood or rendered any kind of unusual support in a medical emergency or took care of a person under a critical emergency condition, until help arrived. At the end of the nomination period, three individuals will be identified for their presence of mind and lifesaving action, to be felicitated at a function where they will receive Rs 20,000/- each.

According to data available, patients getting admitted through emergency department at Gleneagles Global Health City is approx 30-40 % of the total admission are emergency cases due to road accidents, HPB, Heart attacks or Cardiac related illness, strokes etc. The highest percentage of age group who get admitted as emergencies cases are between 21-30 age group followed by 31-40 age group.
