Annual Trans* Achiever Awards
Towards the aforementioned aim, B2W has instituted a Trans* Achiever Award which is conferred upon
Persons from the gender non-conforming communities for outstanding achievement in various fields.
This is done with the express intention of identifying and creating new role models within these
Communities. It is to send out a message to youngsters that there is a life possible beyond commercial
sex work and begging, if they aspire to an alternate lifestyle. This, it is hoped, will create an impression
in the minds of the general public that there are many individuals amongst Trans* communities who are
Actively seeking to break out of socially imposed stereotypes and are involved in creating newer ways of
Engaging with the world than they are normally given credit for.
The Trust also identifies and recognizes members of the so called “mainstream” society who are trying
to understand, engage and give meaningful opportunities to members of Trans* communities. Also the
Supportive and understanding family members from the birth families of gender non-conforming
Persons are recognized and awarded through this initiative.
Third Annual Trans* Achiever Awards
Born2Win Social Welfare Trust organized The Second Annual Trans* Achiever Award function on April
28, 2015 at SMT Sivagami Petthachi Auditorium, Mylapore Chennai.
Held to mark Trans* Day Celebrations (which falls on April 15 in Tamil Nadu), this year’s program attains
Greater significance as it was held in the wake of the Supreme Court judgment that conferred the right
Of gender non-conforming persons to identify as the third gender. The judgment finally recognizes the
Gender non-conforming as citizens of this country and secures many rights heretofore denied. This can
Only mean that many more persons in the Trans* communities will be encouraged to pursue their
Aspirations and prove that were indeed born to win!
This year 15 individuals from amongst Trans* communities and individuals from across INDIA were
Identified to receive awards. These are the people who have dared to think beyond the norm and have
Pursued their passions to emerge victorious. Amongst the awardees this year were pastors, individuals
