Induction ceremony of freshers at AHS and Health Sciences Colleges of SRMIST group remained a grand affair. T P Ganesan Auditorium on SRMIST premises at Kattankulathur near Chennai was filled with thunderous applause today as freshers received a warm welcome.

Commissioner of Income Tax V Nandakumar IRS was the chief guest for the event that saw a participation of students in large numbers. Over 1635 students from courses in allied health sciences stream were inducted into their courses during the ceremony.

Medicine and allied health sciences is a noble profession and its practitioners command great respect across the globe. As a student of these sciences, you must rise beyond the qualification and work with compassion, said Nandakumar.

Do not look at the courses you study as a mere qualification, look at it as a means to work for the well-being of all. Those who come to you with great amount of trust and you must keep it up with by providing a service that would win their hearts, he said.

Only when you work with compassion and dedication, one shall get the opportunity to scale to great heights in the profession, he said.

Dr Lt Col A Ravikumar, Pro Vice Chancellor (Medical and Health Sciences), SRMIST said providing attention to all the students has always been the norm at the institution so as to turn them into citizens who can contribute ably towards the progress of the nation.

The driving force at the institution were quality education, excellent patient care and translational research. These have earned the institution a place among the most revered organizations in the arena of higher education.

This was evident in the fact that the students of Occupation Therapy of the institution won a placement with a very attractive pay package.

Dr Lt Col A Ravikumar further said they are working towards inculcating a culture of research where even undergraduate students would be motivated to consider taking up research.

Vice Chancellor of SRMIST Dr C Muthamizhchelvan said opportunities to learn a lot are abundant at this institution, students get an opportunity to network with faculty to enhance their knowledge.

 

Faculty are always available for their students, there is a great deal of emphasis on promoting entrepreneurism among the students. Those who are motivated to start their own ventures get good deal of encouragement at the institution.

SRMIST is an institution that had a very humble beginning in 1985 with an intake of 180 students. In a journey of 38 years it has recorded a great deal of achievements. Its present intake is over 22,000 students, and has earned a place among the top 20 institutions in the country, he said.

Colonel (Retired) A Krishnawami was the guest of honour. Motivating the students he said, it never mattered as to how many times one ended as a failure, it matters as to how many times one has attempted to fight back and win.

Medical and allied health sciences are a noble profession, you have the opportunity to be a part of this job which earns a great deal of respect, be proud of it, said Colonel Krishnaswami.

Students were also introduced to the deans of the eight institutions that come under the aegis of Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at SRMIST. Registrar of SRMIST Dr S Ponnusamy, Additional Registrar of SRMIST T Mythili, Faculty Advisor (SRM Medical College) A Sundaram, Dean (Medical) Dr Nitin Madhusudan Nagarkar were among others present.
