Chennai, September 4, 2015: Omshakthy Agencies (Madras) Pvt. Ltd., a leading real estate developer in Tamil Nadu, today donated 16 sewing machines to the School for Muscular Dystrophy. The beneficiaries are the mothers to 16 children suffering from Muscular Dystrophy, who are students at the school.
Mr. R. Ramachanthran, Chairman, Omshakthy Agencies (Madras) Pvt. Ltd.; Ms. Snehalatha,Joint Director, Women’s Development Corporation ; and Dr. Vishwanathan, President, Muscular Dystrophy ;Mrs. Celin Paul, NGO, Mrs. Jasmine, DDRO, Mrs. Rohini, AEO, Chennai Corporation and Mrs. Ramani, Treasurer gave away the sewing machines to the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R. Ramachanthran said, “No amount of support, monetary or otherwise, can bring down the pain of the parents of children suffering from muscular dystrophy. We may know that it is a genetic disease that leads to progressive weakness and degeneration of muscles, restricting the patient’s movement. But knowing a disease and living it are two different things. These children needs complete care throughout the day. The machines provided are given to the mothers of the affected children for them to earn a livelihood for themselves.”
The School for Muscular Dystrophy started functioning from August 2009. This initiative of the Chennai Corporation, in consultation with the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), seeks to provide a suitable ambience for children, making available services such as physiotherapy and speech therapy.
