RAMAM RAGHAVAM Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“‘Ramam Raghavam’” Movie Produced by Prithvi Polavarapu under the banner of Slate Pencil Pictures, Directed by Debutant Director, Tollywood Familiar Actor Thanaraj Koranani. Starring by Samuthirakani, Pramodini, Thanaraj Koranani, Moksha, Suneel, Harish Uthaman, Sathya, Srinivas Reddy, and Prithviraj.

Thasaratharaman (Samuthirakani), a seasoned officer at the Cuddalore Sub-Registrar’s office, is known for his honesty. His son, Raghavan (Thanaraj), has been a troublemaker since his school days, smoking and disrespecting others. As he grows older, he develops bad habits, plays cards, and runs a business with a friend, losing money to gambling and asking his father for more. Raghavan wants to make quick money and is willing to take shortcuts.

Thasaratharaman tries to reform his son and gets him a job at a petrol bunk. However, Raghavan continues his deceitful ways, stealing petrol and bribing vigilance officers. To pay off a debt of ten lakhs to Suneel, Raghavan tricks his father into signing a property document, promising to repay the loan. When Thasaratharaman discovers his son’s forgery, he hands Raghavan over to the police, warning him to mend his ways.

Enraged, Raghavan plots to kill his father after his release. Will Raghavan succeed in his plan, Raghavan, with the help of his friend Deva (Harish Uthaman), a lorry driver, plots to kill his father. Raghavan promises to buy a lorry for Deva with the insurance money he will receive after his father’s death. After that, Raghavan pretends to be a good son and accompanies his father, Thasaratharaman, on a solo trip to Puducherry, where Deva has planned to kill him. But did Deva actually kill Thasaratharaman as planned by Raghavan? Did Raghavan’s plan succeed? What did Thasaratharaman do when he discovered his son’s plan? Did the father’s love prevail, or did the son’s evil intentions succeed? The climax of the film provides the answers to these questions.”or will his father’s love and concern for him prevail? The film’s climax provides a gripping answer to this question.

Samuthirakani shines as Thasaratharaman, a good father. He acts naturally in the scenes where he tries to reform his son, and his performance in the final scene is exceptional. When you see Thasaratharaman’s honest character, you can understand how perfectly Samuthirakani fits into that role.

Director Thanaraj, who plays the negative role of Raghavan, the son, contributes aptly to the story. He portrays a son with a heart of stone, making you feel that no one should be like that to their father. He maintains this character until the end, acting innocently, and the transformation after reading his father’s diary is a plus for the story.

Pramodhini, as the loving wife and affectionate mother, is caught between her husband and son. She melts down for her son, is bound by her husband’s words, and her crying scenes in the climax are heart-wrenching. Her portrayal as an innocent mother unaware of her son’s nature is also noteworthy.

Harish Uthaman, as Deva, the lorry driver and friend of Thanaraj, provides strong support. His boldness in committing a murder in a small twist and the subsequent turn of events he creates are a crucial turning point in the film.

Moksha, Suneel, Sathya, Srinivas Reddy, and Prithviraj appear in a few scenes, but their roles are not extensive. Since this is Thanaraj’s first film, the entire technical team, including Siva Prasad (Story), Marthand K. Venkatesh (Editing), Durga Koli Prasad (Cinematography), Arun Siluveru (Music), and Yugabharathi and Murugan Manthiram (Lyrics), have shouldered the responsibility and supported the director, bringing him laurels.

In “Ramam Raghavam,” the story is the real hero. This film doesn’t follow the usual template of fights and songs. Director Thanaraj hasn’t forced any unnecessary elements into the story. The director’s skill in presenting a conventional story from a new perspective and in a new way.

The film revolves around the conversation, “You don’t deserve a father like me, and I don’t deserve a son like you.” This dialogue encapsulates the entire emotional core of the film.

The story of “Ramam Raghavam” is about a father, Thasaratharaman, who is like Lord Rama, and his son, Raghavan, who is like a demon. Director Thanaraj’s effort to portray the father-son bond in a new way is commendable.

The film’s highlight is the father’s decision not to see his son as a murderer and the punishment he gives him until his death, filled with mental agony and frustration.

Overall, “Ramam Raghavam,” is a poignant portrayal of a devoted father’s sacrifice that will leave you spellbound, emotionally stirred, and profoundly moved, resonating deeply with your heart.
