Vattakhanal is a small village nestled in the Kodaikanal hills, known for its picturesque waterfalls. The village is home to Chellapandian (Adukalam Naren), a notorious figure who controls the lucrative trade of hallucinogenic mushrooms, operating with the tacit cooperation of the police. Kathiravan (R.K. Suresh), Chellapandian’s trusted driver and confidant, harbors a deep-seated lust for Chellapandian’s wife, Radha (Vidhya Pradeep). Driven by his desires and ambition to seize control of the illicit mushroom trade, Kathiravan murders Chellapandian and attempts to take over the business. However, his actions trigger a vengeful fury in Radha, who seeks retribution for her husband’s death.
Kathiravan, who has maintained his drug empire for 20 years, has raised three orphaned boys – Sathya (Dhruvan Mano), Kabali Vishwanth, and Vijay TV Sarath – like his own sons since they were young. They serve as his loyal henchmen, carrying out his violent deeds. Kathiravan sets his sights on Varsha (Meenakshi Govindarajan), the heir to a vast property in Vattakhanal, and plots to seize her assets. However, Sathya and Varsha’s encounter blossoms into love.
Varsha, Sathya’s girlfriend, plans a surprise birthday gift for the plantation workers by giving them the ownership of the estate. However, her plans are threatened when Kathiravan learns about it and tries to intimidate her. Meanwhile, Radha, who has been waiting for the perfect moment to avenge her husband’s death, is biding her time. In a shocking turn of events, Varsha goes missing, and the story takes an unexpected twist as Sathya searches for her, leading to a thrilling sequence of events.
R.K. Suresh has delivered a menacing performance as Kathiravan, bringing the character to life with his intimidating appearance and body language, showcasing his acting experience.
Dhruvan Mano, the son of renowned playback singer Mano, shows promise as an actor with a natural flair. He has potential to make a mark on the silver screen in the future too.
Meenakshi Govindarajan’s beauty and acting skills are impressive, and her portrayal of Varsha is a pivotal turning point in the screenplay.
Aadukalam Naren as Chellapandiyan and Vidhya Pradeep as Radha deliver outstanding performances, perfectly capturing the essence of the crime network and adding depth to the story.
The other casts, including Singer Mano, Vinodhini, R.K. Varadharajan, Muruganandham, Vijay TV Sarath, George Vijay, Kabali Vishwanth, and Fathima Babu, have all done justice to their roles.
The Technical team, including Cinematographer M.A. Anand, Music Composer Maris Vijay, Editor Sabu Joseph, and Art Director Don Bala, have all contributed to strengthening the narrative with their technical expertise.
Director Pithak Pughazhenthi has focused on the rise and fall of a rowdy who runs an empire, committing multiple murders and amassing wealth, without deeply exploring the social impact of narcotic mushrooms that ruin the lives of youth.
“Vattakhanal” movie is A crime thriller that depicts the devastating consequences of narcotic mushroom abuse, serving as a cautionary tale for today’s society to avoid addiction.
