Gunasekaran (Kishore), a middle-class man, works as a cab driver for a travel company. He loses his job after helping a colleague. However, his life takes a turn for the better when his wife, Vasanthi (Abhirami), pawns her jewelry to help him buy his own car, allowing him to start a new venture and find happiness.

When Gunasekaran suffers a leg injury in an accident, he starts renting out his car. However, things take a drastic turn when the driver gets involved in a crime, and Gunasekaran’s vehicle is used in the act. A corrupt police officer, entangled in a web of politics and power, files a false complaint against him, accusing him of being involved in the crime. Overnight, Gunasekaran’s peaceful life is turned upside down.

Gunasekaran finds himself caught in a desperate struggle for survival in Madurai, facing unexpected arrest, police brutality, and intense political pressure to confess to a crime he didn’t commit. Anbu (TTF Vasan), who is in love with Gunasekaran’s sister, takes it upon himself to help the innocent man, going to great lengths to clear his name. However, under the immense pressure from the authorities, Gunasekaran is coerced into signing a false confession, admitting to a crime he didn’t commit.

The rest of the film follows Anbu’s efforts to rescue Gunasekaran from the clutches of the law, as he navigates the complexities of the Indian Penal Code to prove his innocence, and the dramatic events that unfold in court.

Kishore shines as Gunasekaran, bringing to life the character’s family values, compassionate nature, and desperation as he navigates through a complex web of challenges, showcasing his versatility as an actor. TTF Vasen, in his debut, impressively conveys the emotions and romance, making a strong impact in his scenes.

The supporting cast, including Bose Venkat as Police Officer Muthukaruppan, Singampuli as the uncle, Adukalam Naren as Chief Minister Thirupathisamy, Abhirami as Vasanthi, Kushitha Kallapu as Kanimozhi, Dileepan as Dakshinamurthy, John Vijay, and Harish Peradi as Brijiv Menon, deliver notable performances that add depth to the film.

The technical team, comprising music composer Ashwin Vinayagamoorthy, cinematographer S. Pitchumani, and editor Prakash Mabbu, have skillfully supported the director’s vision, bringing the story to life through their expertise. Dinesh Subbarayan’s stunt work is impressive, particularly in the high-octane chase sequences.

The Indian Penal Law is a decent effort, with commendable sequences and impactful climactic moments. Despite an uneven narrative, the film effectively builds tension and culminates in intense confrontations, tackling real-life issues like custodial deaths and false accusations with a sense of urgency and authenticity, showcasing director Karunanidhi’s commitment to the cause.

“Indian Penal Law” movie is a common man’s relentless pursuit of justice against the injustices of the IPL, seeking recourse through the courts.
