“Kombuseevi” movie produced by Mukesh T Chelliah under the banner of Star Cinemas, Music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, Directed by Ponram, Starring by Shanmugapandian, “Supreme Star” Sarath Kumar, Tharnika, Sujith Shankar, Munishkanth, Kalki raja, Kali venkat, George maryam, “Bahubali” Prabakar, Ramachandran, Indhumathy & Many Others.
Sarathkumar plays Rokkapuli, a respected figure in the village who mediates disputes and is always at the forefront of any issue. He takes in Shanmugapandian, an orphan who lost his parents at a young age and has been struggling to make ends meet. Sarathkumar’s character raises Shanmugapandian as his own, showing a paternal affection towards him.
They are involved in smuggling contraband from one place to another. When Laila (Tharnika), a police officer, learns about the smuggling operation in the village, she arrives on the scene, making a bold statement with her tough demeanor.
However, the 10 kilograms of contraband that Inspector Laila had confiscated goes missing from the police station. Desperate for a solution, Laila turns to Shanmugapandian for help, and he agrees to provide her with 10 kilograms of contraband. But just as Laila catches Shanmugapandian red-handed, the story takes a dramatic turn. The rest of the film follows the twists and turns in their lives and the consequences that unfold.
Shanmugapandian scores big time as the village hero, delivering an impressive performance in every scene. He excels in action sequences, comedy, and dialogue delivery, leaving a lasting impact. His dancing skills and romantic scenes could use some improvement, but overall, he’s on a roll.
The biggest strength of the film is Sarathkumar, who shines in the second half like a breath of fresh air. He effortlessly pulls off every role, bringing a larger-than-life presence to the screen. His portrayal of a respected figure in the village is raw, vibrant, and utterly captivating.
The film’s focus on contraband smuggling makes it difficult to emotionally connect with the characters, which is why some scenes feel disconnected. However, moments like the police chase sequence, the courtroom drama, the character’s portrayal as a priest, and the humorous scenes where a character praises himself excessively are entertaining and add a touch of humor to the film.
The film’s sudden shift from comedy to heavy emotional sequences feels jarring and confusing. It makes one wonder if the comedic tone could have been maintained throughout. On the technical front, the cinematography is impressive, capturing the essence of the village beautifully. Yuvan’s music, including the songs and background score, is a highlight of the film, and he delivers a memorable performance.
Sarath Kumar and Shanmugapandian combo workouts excellent. Yuvan Shankar Raja musical is extremely treat to audience.
As the police officer, Tharnika deliver a convincing performance and looks so gorgeous she attracts audience with her presence by with a passable act. Meanwhile, Kalki Raja manages to inject some excitement into the film’s template comedy elements, steering it towards more lighthearted and entertaining episodes. Kali Venkat, George Maryam , and Tharun Gopi don’t have much to work with in terms of acting scope.
The cinematographer Balasubramaniem has done a brilliant job in capturing the mountains, barren lands, and the scenic areas around the Vaigai dam, bringing a sharpness and clarity to the visuals that enhances the film’s overall aesthetic. Editor Dinesh Ponraj and Art Director Saravana Abiram did their job neat and clean.
The scattered comedic moments in the first half bring some much-needed laughter to the film, particularly the lorry scene, which is genuinely hilarious. However, the majority of the comedy dialogues feel outdated and test the audience’s patience. Additionally, the romance subplot, which tries to convey “we’re a big deal,” feels forced and dragged out, testing the viewers’ endurance.
“Kombuseevi” movie attempts to walk a tightrope by tackling a weighty theme while simultaneously injecting a plethora of comedic sequences. Regrettably, this approach proves to be a double-edged sword, as neither the serious narrative nor the humor is fully effective in serving the film’s overall interests.
