Retta Thala Movie Review by MATHIOLI RAJAA

“Retta Thala” movie Produced by Bobby Balachandran under the banner of BTG Universal, Directed by Kris Thirukumaran, Music by Sam CS, Starring by Arun Vijay, Siddhi Idnani, Tanya Ravichandran, Yogi Samy, John Vijay, Hareesh Peradi, Balaji Murugadoss and Many Others.

Kaali (Arun Vijay), a young man from a humble background in Pondicherry, and his sweetheart Anthre (Siddhi Idnani) share a deep affection that originated from their childhood friendship. After a five-year hiatus, Kaali returns to Pondicherry, driven by the desire for a better life, but he’s compelled to live in secrecy due to past transgressions.

As Kaali navigates his relationship with Anthre, he notices a significant shift in her perspective, with her increasingly prioritizing wealth and material security. Her conviction that love is insufficient to sustain a fulfilling life creates uncertainty and tension in their relationship. Meanwhile, Anthre makes a decisive move, choosing to leave Pondicherry for France in pursuit of financial stability and a more prosperous life.

In a chance encounter, Kaali’s life becomes entangled with that of a wealthy and influential individual, Malpe Upendra (another Arun Vijay), who mistakes him for a deadly hitman from Goa due to their striking resemblance. Without revealing the truth, Kaali finds himself drawn into Malpe Upendra’s world.

Kaali finds himself mesmerized by Malpe Upendra’s extravagant lifestyle. When Malpe Upendra invites Kaali to stay with him for a fortnight, providing him with wealth and a luxury car, Kaali sees an opportunity to reconnect with Anthre. However, Anthre’s fascination with the wealth and luxury soon turns sinister, as she manipulates Kaali into committing a heinous crime – murdering Malpe Upendra and claiming his riches for themselves. In a chilling act, they kill Malpe Upendra and dispose of his body by feeding it to a crocodile.

Upon returning home, Kaali and Anthre are met with an unexpected revelation. Malpe Upendra’s Goan mistress is present, oblivious to the murder that has taken place. She addresses Kaali as Malpe Upendra and reveals details about a forged passport in Kaali’s name and a hidden stash of money in a Chennai car. The truth dawns on Kaali – Malpe Upendra had orchestrated his own murder – and in a desperate bid to protect himself, Kaali eliminates the Goan mistress.

As Police Officer John Vijay begins to investigate, Kaali’s world is turned upside down. He learns that Malpe Upendra is, in fact, a deadly hitman from Goa who had been required to sign a bond at the police station for 15 days. However, Kaali’s troubles are far from over. Harish Perade, a powerful underworld figure from Goa, arrives with his henchmen, seeking revenge for his son’s murder and mistaking Kaali for the killer. With Harish Perade hot on his heels, Kali must navigate this treacherous situation to clear his name and survive.

With the police and Goan villains hot on his heels, will Kaali manage to evade capture? What becomes of his beloved Anthre? As the mystery surrounding Kaali’s identity deepens, the climax unravels the truth behind his clandestine life, leaving the audience on the edge of their seats.

Arun Vijay delivers a tour-de-force performance, effortlessly embodying the contrasting personas of Kaali and Malpe Upendra. He brings depth and nuance to both characters, imbuing Kaali with a sense of vulnerability and Malpe Upendra with a suave, modern edge. The actor’s physical prowess is particularly impressive in the action sequences, adding to the film’s kinetic energy. His commitment to the dual roles is evident, making him a compelling presence on screen.

Siddhi Idnani showcases her range, she looks so gorgeous in the screen presence, departing from the conventional heroine archetype to portray a complex character driven by ambition and materialism. The supporting cast, comprising John Vijay, Harish Peradi, Yogi Samy, and Balaji Murugadoss, delivers commendable performances that add depth to the narrative. Notably, Tanya Ravichandran makes a memorable impact in a brief appearance towards the climax, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

The film’s background score, composed by Sam CS, is instrumental in heightening the tension and suspense throughout the narrative. The song “Kannamma,” sung by Actor Dhanush, is a notable musical highlight. Tijo Tomy’s cinematography is particularly impressive, capturing the vibrant colors and adding depth to the night sequences and action scenes. However, Anthony’s editing, while polished, could have benefited from a more precise cut to further enhance the film’s stylish and engaging narrative.

Kris Thirukumaran ‘s narrative masterfully explores the theme of identity and its consequences. The story revolves around two individuals with identical appearances but distinct personalities, who attempt to exploit this coincidence for personal gain. However, their plan goes awry, and one of them loses their life. The surviving individual is forced to assume the dead man’s identity, leading to a series of intense and suspenseful events. The screenplay is engaging, with a slow-burning first half that sets the stage for a thrilling ride of action, twists, and conflicts in the second half, ultimately culminating in a gripping climax with a stunning revelation.

Retta Thala movie is a action-packed thriller is a must-watch for fans of high-energy action and style. Arun Vijay delivers a performance that will delight his fans. With its unpredictable plot twists, the film keeps the audience engaged, setting up surprises at the beginning, during the interval, and in the final scenes, ensuring a thrilling ride from start to finish.
