Selvam (Samuthirakani) and Shanthi (Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli) struggle to make ends meet. Selvam is Car Driver and Shanthi is Street Food Vendor they lives with needy life. They have big dreams that Own house and give good education to their own son. As Shanthi pushes for financial stability, Selvam’s greed kicks in, and things spiral out of control, showing the cost of compromising integrity.
Selvam’s content life with his small family by the sea gets disrupted when societal expectations kick in. At his niece’s coming-of-age ceremony, he’s torn between his modest means and Shanthi’s desire to give a lavish gift, leading to tension. The desire for money sparks a frantic scramble for assets, driven by the fear of not being able to provide for their son’s future.
Selvam’s life takes a turn when he’s tempted to use his boss’s (Goutham Vasudev Menon) car as a cab to make quick money. As greed takes over, he gets into debt and trouble. Will he return the car safely or get trapped?
Carmeni Selvam’s story hits close to home, showcasing the middle-class struggle with luxury desires and debt traps. The first half’s catchy moments could’ve been trimmed, but the second half’s drama wraps up well.
Samuthirakani nails his role, effortlessly shifting between shades. Lakshmi Priya Chandramouli’s genuine performance shines, while Gautham Vasudev Menon’s crisp role adds depth. Abhinaya impresses with her elegance presence.
Yuvaraj Dakshan’s cinematography is superb, capturing moments naturally. Ramanujan MK through his company Music as a Service Musicloud Studio & Technology’s music score complements the film’s emotional depth. Jagan R V – Dinesh S’s Editing gives soul to the movie.
Director Ram Chakri focuses on the idea that “debt is a tool for need, not a trap for luxury.” He also sensitively portrays the mindset of those working abroad for family responsibilities. Hats off to him for his clarity and crystal clear presentation.
“Carmeni Selvam” movie is a heart-touching film that reflects the emotions we experience in life and thought-provoking film highlighting financial responsibility, self-respect, and middle-class struggles. It reminds us to live within our means and face challenges with honesty and patience.
