Kaakee Circus follows a group of cops overseeing prisoners in a jail. A charity hundi goes missing, despite being locked in a caged box, and under heavy guard. When cop Subash Selvam starts investigating, his superior Munishkanth blocks him, believing prisoners can reform through reading – specifically his own books in the prison library. Can the cops catch the thief?

The web series boasts a solid cast. Subash Selvam’s sincere performance, Munishkanth’s upright stance, Rajesh Madhavan’s creepy villainy, and Vinsu Rachel Sam’s refreshing act all shine. Supporting actors, like the vloggers and coffin seller, add to the series’ strength.

The series sets the mood well, immersing you in its characters’ world. It takes time to pick up pace, but once it does, the story moves forward. However, some episodes drag with repetitive cop-criminal scenes focused on reading books. The plot’s unique, but it takes a while to get to the investigation.

The humor doesn’t quite hit the mark. It’s only in the last few episodes, when Subash Selvam gets invested in solving the case and shows a deeper side, that the story gets engaging. Munishkanth’s character feels underwritten, making the ‘humorous’ scenes tedious. Also, the villain’s Malayalam dialogues with his accomplice aren’t clear in Tamil, with fast-moving subtitles. This leaves their motives unclear.

The series is billed as a comedy, but shines in its investigative parts. Trimming some sequences would’ve improved the viewing experience.
