“Golden Star” Kulkanth Kumar is young energetic upcoming star in cinema industry. Sivalingam Manradiyar (Thambi Ramaiya), from a influential zamindar family in Pollachi, is a die-hard MGR fan aiming to build a ‘mass’ image and grab power. He meets Kulkanth Kumar (Natty Nataraj), a labourer from a neighbouring state, who speaks broken Tamil. Circumstances turn Kumar into an unexpected cinema star.

Sivalingam sees MGR’s resemblance in Kulganth’s performance, style, standard, respect and plans to make him a big star. He produces films based on MGR’s ideologies, but they flop. Despite this, Kulkanth perseveres and eventually becomes a ‘mass’ hero, earning the title ‘Golden Star’ from fans. At his peak, Kulkanth plans to unite fan clubs and enter politics. That’s when the story heats up. Set against the 2026 elections, the power struggle between the creator-zamindar and the created-star unfolds, with other political forces intervening. The thrilling rest of the story reveals the outcome of this clash.

The identity of Golden Star Kulkanth Kumar is intentionally concealed, making it tough for the audience to recognize him in real life. However, subtle hints through dialogues and incidents reveal his true character. The climax brings an unexpected twist.

 

Natty Nataraj shines with his natural acting. He perfectly captures the ‘Attitude’ of a Golden Star and the innocence of a poor labourer, showcasing two distinct personas. His portrayal of a naive, broken-Tamil-speaking migrant worker is incredibly realistic, with his gait, attire, and vulnerable demeanor. Post-transformation into a cinema star, Natty’s acting takes a leap, exuding Golden Star aura, authority, and fan-handling finesse. His unique dialogue delivery earns applause, making this film a crowning achievement – a ‘Golden Star’ – one more ‘Sathuranga Vettai” in his career.

Thambi Ramaiya is the second hero of this film, impressing as scriptwriter, dialogue writer, and actor. He dominates as Sivalingam Manradhiyar, exuding authority and power. His experience shines in the scenes, making it the film’s soul. As a haughty Pollachi zamindar, he occupies the screen with his commanding presence, gait, and piercing gaze. His clever plans to transform a nobody into a Golden Star are fascinating. The banter and punchy dialogues, typical of Thambi Ramaiya’s style, add to the film’s flavor. The ego clash between Natty and Thambi Ramaiya is the film’s strength, making for a thrilling narrative.

Alongside Natty and Thambi Ramaiya, veteran actors M. S. Bhaskar and Ilavarasu are crucial pillars, adding depth with their experience. Chandini Tamilarasan and Shrrita Rao contribute adequately to the story. Yashika Anand brings glamour and appears in key scenes. Redin Kingsley’s one-liners workouts well and guarantee a chuckle.

Umapathy S. Ramaiya, making his directorial second movie, blends his father Thambi Ramaiya’s experience with contemporary tastes, crafting a satirical take on politics. He skillfully handles the current trend of actors entering politics, infusing humor and nuance. The ‘making’ scenes of transforming a labourer into a mass hero are engaging. Umapathy’s maturity shines in realistically depicting cinema’s inner workings and image-building. He cleverly weaves in today’s meme culture and politics, set against the 2026 elections, leveraging Natty Nataraj’s authentic face and Thambi Ramaiya’s intense acting.
