India and the US team up to conduct a nuclear test at Nanda Devi, but an avalanche during the operation causes the nuclear device to go missing. Years later, Russia discovers it and partners with Pakistan to hatch a plan. At that moment, India’s top RAW agent Sarathkumar tries to kill them and seize the device, but somehow gets captured by the Russian forces.

To rescue Sarathkumar, local Indian agent in Russia, Gautham Ram Karthik, is sent on the mission. But the operation fails with an unexpected twist. Because of this, RAW agent Arya and his team, operating under Manju Warrier’s leadership in Chennai, India, are ordered to go to Russia to rescue Sarathkumar and retrieve the nuclear device. The twists that follow and whether Arya successfully completes the mission form the rest of the story.

Arya is good height, his builded fitness physic and absolutely looks the part of a RAW agent. Right from the first scene where he rises out of the water, he makes an intimidating impact. He owns the romantic scenes effortlessly. And in the action sequences, he absolutely kills it.

Gautham Ram Karthik plays a role unlike anything he’s done so far in his career. He performs in a very stylish manner. He nailed it and steals the entire show. Wow, what an amazing contribution from him. He’s pulled off something huge neatly, without any big fuss.

Manju Warrier leaves a strong impression as the tough RAW group leader. She keeps up her standards at some other level. Her body language, dialogue delivery, and performance are outstanding. Especially the things she does action sequences in the climax are captivating. Along with them, a whole star cast including Sarathkumar, Kaali Venkat, Jayaprakash, Raiza Wilson, Athulya Ravi, and Anagha has acted in it.

When you think of a RAW agent spy thriller, the first things that come to mind are fight scenes, technology, and edge-of-the-seat chases. Stunt master Stunt Silva has delivered those really well, as much as possible.

Even though we’ve seen many action spy thrillers from Hollywood and Bollywood, the scenes and twists in this film still give us a huge hype. Director Manu Anand has tried to pack the screenplay with as many twists and turns as possible, and all of them manage to surprise us in several places. Hats off to the director for that.

The ideas like a nuclear device, other countries chasing it, a G-20 summit happening at the same time, and the need to save the country without any mishap, all work really well. It keeps you on edge, wondering what happens next.

Technically, the film is very strong. Arul Vincent’s cinematography, Dhibu Ninan Thomas’s songs and background score are all really good. They add strength to the film. Art directors Indulal Kaveed and Sekar B’s work is a priceless miracle. Editor Prasanna GK’s cuts are outstanding and an excellent job. VFX and SFX plays the major part in the film.

“Mr. X” movie is a decent spy thriller with impressive technical polish and a pace that never drags. It plays it a bit safe with a familiar story and some minor plot holes, but it successfully builds ground for a franchise. For action/spy fans, this one’s worth the ticket.
