XXV Conference of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists and 18th International Congress on Oral Pathology and Medicine inaugurated in Chennai

18th International Congress of Oral Pathology and Medicine (IAOP) and XXV Conference of Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists (IAOMP) was inaugurated in Chennai today. Dr. Michael Aldred, President, International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists and Dr. K. Ranganathan, Organizing Chair Person, XXV IAOMP – 18th IAOP Conference, Professor and Head, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Ragas Dental College and Hospital, Chennai inaugurated the four day conference scheduled to be held in Chennai from September 08 to 11, 2016 at ITC Grand Chola.

event-picture-1Dr. Muzumdar, President, Dental Council of India was the Chief Guest for the inauguration and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Geetha Lakshmi, Vice Chancellor, The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University.

This is the first time IAOP is being held in India; along with IAOMP. Around 700 delegates – Renowned doctors, researchers, professors across 28 countries are participating in the conference. Both IAOP and IAOMP will help Oral Pathologists across the world to update, practice and teach on different methodologies to treat cancer, pre-cancer and HIV infection.

Some of the important topics that will be covered in IAOP & IAOMP are

  • Latest management modalities for areca nut (betel nut) induced Precancer and cancer (symposium to be introduced by Dr. K Ranganathan)
  • Connection between oral disease and skin disease (Leading dermatologist, Jaime Eduardo Calonje from UK will lead the slide seminar and give a keynote lecture on Dermatopathology)
  • Recent advances of the tumors of the jaws and head and neck (Symposium to be led by Takashi Takata – Vice president of the Hiroshima University – who will be discussing the new classification scheme to be released by WHO in early 2017)
  • Recent concepts on Forensic Odontology – experts will deliberate on the importance of dentist
  • Deliberations on stem cells from dental pulp
  • HIV infections – role of dental surgeon

Dr. K. Ranganathan, President, Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists and Professor&Head of Department, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Ragas Dental College and Hospital, says “We are delighted to partner with International Association of Oral Pathologists to organize IAOP and IAOMP in Chennai. These conferences will act as a guide to Oral pathologists across the world in diagnosis of oral disease and management. The proceedings and abstracts of selected lectures will be published in an International Journal. Representatives from ICMR (Indian Council for Medical Research) and NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) will attend the conference and share their insights to the participants. Indian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists is the only association to represent Oral pathologists in the country. We work towards creating awareness about Oral Health across the country by organizing various seminars and workshops. We hope IAOP and IAOMP generates lot of innovative solutions in oral disease management which be helpful to humanity at large.”

 

On the side-lines of organizing IAOP and IAOMP meet, a public oral health awareness program “School Oral Health Awareness Program” was organized by Ragas Dental College and Hospital among various schools across Chennai. The objective of this program was to raise awareness on oral health and to encourage children, teachers and education institutions to work towards reducing the burden of oral diseases in the city. This program, designed for the benefit of students of 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th standard trained the students in good practises of oral hygiene and avoiding of harmful habits.
