Children’s participation in Sports is extremely important and should be encouraged as a part of school curriculum. Velammal Vidyalaya (Annexure) has always understood this need and hence together with Golden Goose Sports Academy organized a training session for the budding aspirants of Chess in Chennai. Velammal has been actively pursuing the development of Chess trainers and instructors and had invited the chess legend Grand Master Viswanathan Anand himself to groom the budding stars of Chess at Park Hyatt,Velachery. The Workshop started from 17th March 2017 and is expected to continue till 19th March 2017. The Chess Workshop was inaugurated by the city’s favourite son Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand.
While speaking on the occasion, Grand Master Viswanathan Anand advised the participants to play Chess on a regular basis which would enhance their learning, thinking, analytical and decisive skills. He also added that children playing Chess from an early age exhibit extraordinary memory skills and perform well in their academics too.
Vishy recollected his mother who taught him to play Chess at the age of six with the help of Chess Puzzles. Chess puzzles are used to solve logically a chess–related problem like the last move played, the location of a missing piece or whether a player has lost the right to castle.
International Master Saravanan, an author of Chess Base India also was a mentor of this workshop who taught the students about the various aspects of the game and also on the psychological aspects involved. He also insisted the students to learn books that guide and keep them well-informed about the changing trends in Chess.
He specified the advantages of playing chess as it exercises both sides of the brain promoting brain growth and raising IQ of the players. While sparking the creativity, it fosters planning and foresight and thus improving the self confidence of the budding aspirants. On the whole, playing chess is essential for transforming a child into a responsible, disciplined and wise human being.
Advanced and Intermediate Participants from different schools in and around Chennai took part in this extensive 3 days theory and practice course training by the World Champion GM Viswanathan Anand.
An Interactive questionnaire with the icon gave the candidates an insight towards his inspiration and motivation to achieve his goal which in turn encouraged the participants to aim bigger and up their level of gaming.
A game with the World Champion Viswanathan Anand himself boosted the spirit of candidates to pursue bigger goals and dream high.
The 3 day course provided expert theoretical insights, practical evaluation lesson guides/written assessment and included sharing of previous local, national and international experiences.
Candidates were motivated to spread the love for chess among the millions of children taking up sport and methodically bring them to a competitive level.
Velammal together with Golden Goose Sports Academy beamed benevolently for the success of this workshop.
