On the occasion of World Organ Donation Day, Gleneagles Global Health City in association with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics are conducting a national level quiz titled ‘Organ Transplantation in Children’ for Under and postgraduate medical students

BW7A0064Chennai, August 5, 2017: Gleneagles Global Health City, the largest facility of Gleneagles Global Hospitals, a Parkway Pantai enterprise, in association with the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Chennai City Branch (IAP-CCB) on the occasion of “World Organ Donation Day” conducted a national level quiz titled “Organ Transplantation in children”. The quiz took place on 5th August 2017, Saturday at the Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai facility. The quiz was conducted to increase awareness on paediatric transplantation and organ donation among undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

BW7A0188Dr Naresh Shanmugam, Director, Institute of Advanced Paediatrics, spear headed the organising committee as the Organising Chairperson while the doctors representing Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai were Dr Deenadayalan, Clinical Head, Paediatric Haemto – Oncology, Dr Julius Scott – Senior Consultant, Paediatric Haemato – Oncology, Dr Arul Narayanan, HOD – Paediatric Cardiology and Dr V. Chandrasekaran, HOD and Sr. Consultant – Institute of Renal Sciences. The scientific coordinators were a two member team consisting of Dr Ravi Kumar, Sr. Consultant – Paediatric (PICU), Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai and Dr Vimal Kumar, Consultant, Paediatric Haemato-Oncology, Gleneagles Global Health City, Chennai.

Two member teams were formed for the quiz with undergraduate candidates of any MBBS years or CRRIs or postgraduates from Paediatrics training courses DCH/MD/DNB. The quiz covered various topics such as basics of liver, bone marrow transplant, kidney and heart & lung transplantation.
“ Children, even newborn babies can get diseases that requires transplantation. Many people including some doctors are not aware that organ transplantation could be done on little babies. Getting cadaveric graft for small children pose huge challenge due to non-availability of appropriate sized graft and can deteriorate in waiting list. In an endevour to create awareness amongst the next crop of medical students in India on the advancement of pediatric transplantation in our country and nation wide drive to incrase awareness on organ donation we have organised national level quiz on ‘ Organ transplantation in children’ on the ocassion of World Organ Donation Day.” said Dr Naresh Shanmugam, Director, Institute of Advanced Paediatrics. He further added that“It gives us great honour and pleasure to be associated with an esteemed organization such as the IAP-CCB in promoting message about organ donation”,
